How We Make Pure Rose Water (Gulab Jal) – Traditional Process
At the break of dawn, our journey to make pure rose water begins in our own rose fields, where only fully bloomed Damask roses are handpicked. These precious flowers are the secret behind authentic rose flower water and gulab jal cherished for centuries.
Handpicking Pink Damask Roses for Rose Water
We carefully harvest pink Damask roses from our fields, ensuring only the freshest and most fragrant blossoms are selected. Each rose petal is checked to remove leaves or impurities, guaranteeing purity from the very first step. This is why our gulab jal is trusted for skincare, face glow, and even for drinking.
The Traditional Copper Degh Bhapka Method
The petals are placed in a traditional copper degh (distillation vessel) filled with pure water. We seal the degh with mitti (clay), following an age-old technique that locks in natural fragrance and authenticity. This method has been practiced in Kannauj for generations, making our rose water truly heritage gulab jal.
Slow Heating with Eco-Friendly Fuel
The degh is slowly heated with kanda (cow dung cakes) – a natural, eco-friendly fuel that maintains perfect temperature control. As steam rises through the petals, it captures their essence and condenses in the bhapka (receiver), transforming into pure rose hydrolate — also called rosewater toner or rose water spray.
Collecting Pure Rose Water Drops
Every drop that condenses in the bhapka is natural gulab jal, rich in aroma and benefits. This fresh rose water for face, eyes, and hair is free from chemicals and preservatives. Some use it as a rose water hydrator, others as a rose water mist or even as edible rose water in sweets and drinks.
